Blog1: Introduction to the project

Blog1: Introduction to the project

Hey everyone! Ever spent hours diving into your favorite video games? What kind of games get you hooked? Well, next time you're gaming, take a moment to listen closely – you'll notice something pretty cool: game sound.

Game sound is everywhere in gaming. From the chirping of birds to the epic background music, it adds a whole new dimension to the gaming experience. Whether you're interacting with NPCs, exploring a virtual world, or battling enemies, game sound is there to immerse you in the action.

Let's take a closer look at some examples from a Chinese game called Identity V:

First up, we've got the User Interface Sound. It's those little clicks and whooshes you hear when you navigate through menus and buttons. Check out this video to hear it in action: User interface sound (youtube.com)

Then there's the Background Music. Unlike the UI sound effects, background music sets the mood for the entire game. It's like the soundtrack to your gaming adventure. Listen to it :Background music (youtube.com)

And of course, we can't forget about the Character's Actions Sounds. These are the footsteps, attacks, and other sounds that bring your character to life. They add realism and excitement to the gameplay. Hear them for yourself: Character's actions sound (youtube.com)

From these examples, we may found that Game audio not only enhances the atmosphere and immersion of the game, but also adds drama and tension to the game plot.

So I want do do a project, the name of the project is Toolkit for Game Audio in PureData.

The aim of the project is designing a toolkit in PureData for the new game sound designers and young programmers who are new to the game design field. And create different sounds may be used in the video games, like character's actions sound(the footsteps, running), and natural sounds(vehicles room  size reverb and weather) and so on.

There may be a question: Why would I use your toolkit if I can design it by myself in PureData?

Actually there are people they want to produce their own video game, but they have never learned game sound design before. It is hard for them to design game sound from the start. So my toolkit is designed for those people they are new to game design field, or even new to computer programming.

This is my first blog, it is about an introduction of my project. In the next blog, I will talk about what is game sound, and what kind of sound will I design for computer games. Then in the blog 3, I will talk  about why I will use Pd as the game sound toolkit designing software. In the blog 4, I will talk about thechallenges in my project.
